About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Getting a Ticket

Getting a Ticket

Getting a ticket from an SFPD Motorcycle officer on the corner of Fulton and Laguna Streets, San Fran, CA.

in perspective

I like this site because of its historic content.... and when you think about it, anything that has already happened is historic photos. Meaning that any photos would qualify.

Life is too short to be too picky.

Just a fad

We're just having a little fun with the new Google images. Maybe if they were sepia toned.

google maps

It’s sad that google has its own site for blogging its cams yet posters are turning this great site with old photos of interest into a google voyeurs delight.
