A Country Store in Mississippi: c. 1930s

This photo is of my mother's cousin, Bert Fore, proudly posing inside of his country store in the 1930s. I am not certain where this store was located, but I think it was in Rankin County, Mississippi. View full size.

I think I also see..

some (pre-Frito) Lay's snacks, Clabber Girl (baking soda/powder?), Lipton tea, Folger's coffee(?) next to the Quaker Oats grits, OCB cigarette papers, Arm and Hammer baking soda, BC headache powder, loaves of bread and maybe even a carton of Lucky Strikes on the desk.

These kinds of stores were dying out when I was growing up in the 1960s but I still fondly recall walking into a few of them. Great photo!

Rural, but gritty

Presumably Quaker Grits were as familiar in this neck of the woods as Quaker Oats were out my way. On the other hand, apparently Duz does everything down there, too.
