Giant's Causeway: c. 1940

My mother and my grandmother standing atop the Giant's Causeway (Clochán an Aifir or Clochán na bhFómharach in Gallic), County Antrim, Northern Ireland, circa 1940. The Giant's Causeway is composed of basalt columns and is part of what was once a large volcanic plateau.
The causeway was used as the inspiration for the Led Zeppelin "Houses of the Holy" album cover, itself inspired by the book "Childhood's End". View full size.
