I'll Get You, My Pretties... and your little girl Dorothy, too!
Copping a PleaIn exchange for leniency, Spike and Rover drop the dime on that snooty poodle next door.
Two things immediately struck me about this image...First, the dark-colored house in the distance leads me to think that this was once a much more prosperous neighborhood than it was when this picture was taken.
Second, it was taken by National Photo, which means that someone actually paid money to have a professional go out and take this picture, and I've been puzzled what the object might have been. An advertising shot for the Acme Funny Net Company? Not as obvious, anyway, as the rockfish (Shorpy 8326) or the "?" sign (Shorpy 5537).
[The was one of 10 showing the dog catcher at work, half of which (so far) are on Shorpy. National Photo was primarily a news service whose photos appeared in the Washington Post, Washington Star, etc. - Dave]

Woof.I've got feeling they're not working with the Humane Society.
Humane SocietyI've got a feeling they're not working with the Humane Society, either. I don't even think it was around till the 50's or so.
Either way, it is pretty interesting to see pets pre-Humane Society, I wonder if this was the norm in animal handling?
DogcatchersThe guy in the white shirt is probably thinking about how he'd just as soon step on any more dogs as put his right hand anywhere near their mouths. These still-weaning pups all have open mouths, closed eyes. Looks like Mommy fell victim.
BreedThey look like beagles.
Awwwwww 2You know, at first glance, they don't look all that different from the pig.
Awwww......I'll take 'em.
Goodness, noThis picture brought tears to my eyes.

OwReckon that bandage is covering up a dog bite?
You're probably right.I reckon he has a few stitches under that bandage.
This picture makes me sad. Dogs are supposed to be beside their loving and indulgent owners, not on string ropes at the pound with strangers.
The silver lining is that these men genuinely look like they love dogs...and this picture will forever be "Shorpy neighbors" with the picture of the sailors and their pet birds!
