About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

(update: my sister tells me that it's a Krazy Kar, not a Big Wheel.)

A Tterrace Christmas, 1955

A Tterrace Christmas, 1955

1955. My brother takes a Kodachrome flash shot, and jiggles the camera a little. I'd like to say my father is reading me a Christmas story, but that never happened. Little did I realize back then how great those drapes were. That floor lamp is in my living room right now, and I also have the plastic Wise Men over on the Motorola.
