Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.
i live in europe (in the netherlands, in bussum near amsterdam) my hobbies are cartography, history and (esp. dutch (east) indies and religion). i was born as one of the first to appear in what usually is called the birth peak after WWII in our region. i was born in rotterdam, bombed at the start of WWII. that part of holland was liberated on may 5th, i was born 9 months and 1 week later!
