About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

About Me

25 years a journalist/writer/producer .. radio, during the last seven career wrote and produced 16 major award winning documentaries and series. Since retiring 12 years ago, have taught journalism part time. About two years ago, it was discovered that I have terminal cancer .. so even teaching part time is - to me - infringing on what time I have. Recently discovered that I have microsoft moviemaker on my machine (yep, been there for three years, never noticed it) So, since I have been going back to what I love, creating .. have several projects up at youtube.com Recently, using photos found both at the Library of Congress' website and here, have been producing "stories without words" In the descriptions (and credits of course) I have listed this site, in hopes that it will draw ever more visitors here. Someone asked me recently why I am doing this again... the reason was on, the answer was simple ... honestly, because I am BORED!!
