June 6, 1942. "Indiana Union Building, Indiana University, Bloomington. Lounge I." Large-format acetate negative by Gottscho-Schleisner. View full size.
Took a while to find the title reference, good show sir!
It's a peaceful, sunny day in early June on the Bloomington campus. Students sit quietly reading newspapers. Those papers will soon report that on that very day, June 6, 5000 miles to the west, near tiny Midway atoll, ended the pivotal naval battle of the Pacific war, with the Japanese losing four of the six aircraft carriers that attacked Pearl Harbor only six months before.
