Setting

I'm struck by the strange setting for this portrait. Outside, I can understand, since you get good, even lighting (looks like it was a cloudy day) without having to set up a flask. But couldn't the photographer have taken the time to clear away the metal pole in the lower right corner? And maybe move the hat out of the frame?

[They can be cropped out of the frame when the negative is printed. - Dave]

Uncanny Resemblance

He looks like one of his clients.

Still in business

H.A.'s funeral home is still in operation as Money & King. A grandson, Francis Howard King, took over the firm after he died.
