Pediatrics: 1944

Kathleen, May 6, 1944. My mother-in-law graduated from nursing school at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kokomo, Indiana in the early 1940s. Her initial specialty was pediatrics. I found this image in an envelope that had many photos of her classmates dressed in their caps and capes.
The child's last name is crossed out on the back of the print. These children are not newborns so I'm unsure as to why they were in the hospital. The available lighting from a window and Kathleen's swaddling make for an intriguing image that gives more questions than answers.
