Actually, things haven't changed much. No more screaming until you get home.

A Thriving Practice

Three of them partnered up to form “Dewey, Yankum & Howe”

Painless Dentristy?

I shudder to think what the splatters are on the floor by the row of sinks!

Rinse and Spit

Or, if the need arises, scream and then rinse and spit. Makes me shudder just looking at this picture.

One Scream of Pain

Can you imagine if one of the students did something wrong and caused his patient some pain? And that patient let out a bloodcurdling scream? All the rest of the patients would all of a sudden be in pain and start screaming too. Or faint.

No Way!

As a youngster in the late '50s, I went with my parents and older sisters when it was time for their dental appointment. A not so fond memory is of my father in the chair and a foot operated drill head in his mouth. The dentist had not updated his equipment in years, since he was about to retire. Coupled with an arthritic knee, the doctor of pain couldn't keep up the speed necessary to drill. The drill would speed up and slow down all while my father was trying his best to look strong and brave for a son who thought he was the best of everything.

"Is it safe?"

The high, hard ceiling must have carried the sounds of the screaming throughout the entire building.

Ouch!

The Hall of Pain. No more of that these days ... for me. I do wonder if it got very noisy in that hall?

Where's the Sign?

"Painless Dentist."

Fifty chairs --

no waiting --- Yikes !
