The merchandise in the display cases
is arranged with what I would call surgical precision. One can only imagine the amount of glass cleaner needed to keep them crystal clear.

PENNY'S STILL IN BUISNESS
Yes, I was mistaken. I did some research and Penny's is still in business with several hundred stores across the US. Ours closed down several decades ago and there were a lot of news reports of them in trouble. So I “assumed” they had gone under.

No sight nor whoosh sound of the old inter-departmental pneumatic tubes but the Gimbel Brothers seem to have over-complied with the fire suppression regs.
NOW GONE
This Gimbel's looks a lot like the larger J.C. Penney and Belk's stores of the '70s and '80s. But like Penney's and a lot of the Belk's stores it has gone out of business. They got no “Miracle on 34th Street”.
