The Walk of Fame: 1965

The summer of 1965 finds my father, mother and brother on location in Tinseltown at 6353 Hollywood Boulevard. We didn't see any celebrities, but we did come across record stores, and my brother is clutching two bags of our gleanings therefrom. What my parents did while we gleaned I'm not sure, but no doubt they met the situation with their usual forbearance. Here in my Kodachrome slide they're approaching one of Dave Garroway's two stars - this one for radio - on the Walk of Fame. Garroway, some might remember, was the first host of NBC's Today Show. Later, they were at Hollywood and Vine, where I was snapped in 1963. View full size.

Mystery Boulevard

The sign refers to Cahuenga Boulevard, split longitudinally by the Hollywood Freeway many years ago, such that part of it is to the east of the 101 and part to the west, with several miles existing on both sides of the freeway.

In that duplicate section, one's destination seems invariably on the "other side."

If you know Cahuenga and the numbering system along Sepulveda as well, you have claims to being a true Angelino.

[Or, as they say in Los Angeles, "Angeleno." - Dave]

I know what this is!

This is the establishing shot for the next Avengers movie.

Down the Boulevard

Why, do you suppose, is the song "Little Green Bag" by George Baker running through my head as I look at this photo?

Fashion Forward

I want your dad's shirt!
