B, Arthur

There's a glimpse of this block in a companion 1901 photo looking NW from the Capitol. Lurking just behind the C&P building, identifiable by its rooftop balustrade, is the Arthur Public School.

Last Man Standing

But none of the buildings, sadly. This is the former address known as 23 B St. NW, directly across from the Capitol grounds, the first exchange building designed for the phone company. The last man standing is located today about 100 feet behind the dapper gent in the vintage photo: The large statue of Robert Taft at his Memorial and Carillon Park that sits along Constitution Avenue.
