June 14, 1918. "In a corridor of the American Military Hospital No. 1 at Neuilly, France, which has been filled with beds to accommodate the overflow of wounded." 5x7 inch glass negative by Lewis Wickes Hine for the American National Red Cross. View full size.
Looking at this, I have to wonder who provided all those roses, and then I see the nurse comforting the man in back (I wonder if more interest developed), the man in the middle getting a chance to rest, and the significantly injured man in front who nevertheless does his best to sit up when he notices the camera. Hopefully they all made it home and had long, happy lives.
[Also the man behind the man in back. - Dave]
I think that they will be (were) very happy together.
God bless our veterans.
