A Warm & Fuzzy Came Over Me

The arm-hugging couple brought back warm and fuzzy memories.

I was never much of a hand-holder when walking with my gal as a young man but I loved to put my arm around her as she put her arm around me. It was even better when we both were wearing jeans and we could put a hand in the back pocket. That way of walking always gave me a feeling of being loved.

My wife and I still do it, even though we have been married over 25 years and are in our eighties, usually when window shopping a mall.

I still get that feeling of being special and loved.

Not a screen in sight!

How nice not to see everyone glued to a cellphone!

Now Westfield Wheaton

Wheaton Plaza is now Westfield Wheaton, an enclosed two-level mall, the lower level having been created from the original truck tunnel. The Montgomery Ward store shown in the background of the 1967 photo is now a Target. At the other end of the mall is a JCPenney. Macy's and Costco stores have also been added. I was there this morning. In contrast to the 1967 scene, there were almost no Christmas decorations.

Making spirits bright

Is it just me or does it seem that shopping was a much brighter affair back then?

Still going strong while others have gone away

Wheaton Plaza, along with Prince George's Plaza (seen here in 1959), were metro Washington's two primary shopping centers outside of downtown until Tysons Corner Center opened in 1968, and are still in business. The store in the distance is a Montgomery Wards that is now a Target, and of course they put a roof on in the 1980s as they had with PG Plaza in the late 1970s.

Boots

With regard to that woman on the right in the coat with black dots, I can’t properly say where her white boots begin and where they end.
