"The Greatest Generation - The Movie"

If I were a screenwriter of a movie about the U.S. Navy in WWII, this scene would be the bookend that opens the film. The other bookend, the final scene, would be of the WWII Memorial, constructed 75 years later on the same site where the photographer was standing when taking this photo. Given the date of the photo and their ages, I can't help but wonder how many of these kids fought in that war, and how many didn't return home from it.

Lincoln Memorial Swimmers

I think they would get arrested and spend the night in jail for this now. In the Reflecting Pool!? Too bad.

Joy

What a happy bunch of kids! I love this photo.
