The Nats

They won the World Series on a bad-hop single in the ninth. It figures.

The third baseman

is likely Ossie Bluege, who played 102 of 156 games in 1924. The Senators (Nationals) won the AL pennant and World Series that year, for Walter Johnson's only Series title. The Tigers finished 3rd, six games back.

The Senators

The Senators were Washington's team in 1924. Love the blog!

[Just about everyone called the team the Nationals. Below: Headline for the game in our photo. - Dave]

Home

Er, home plate is another 90 feet to his left...

[Oops. One of these days I'll start reading the captions. - Dave]

Empty stands

Seems attendance was down that day.

[The Washington Post says 15,000 attended that day. Stadium capacity was 32,000. - Dave]
