Circa 1905. "Provision store. Caracas, Venezuela." Dry plate glass negative, Detroit Publishing Company. View full size.
The tins of green oil (I assume it's olive?) pure Creole something in the boxes -- maybe a kind of syrup -- the "Estearica" (candles) box in front of the boy, the knife on the newspaper, which looks like it was used for a joint of meat. And it looks like, under the paper, are square white cheeses, too. And the little black dots of flies all over the counter and everywhere.
I wish the old woman with the bundles balanced (?) on her head had come into focus a bit more, but she didn't seem to fit in with the modern floral wallpaper, the natty high collars and hats of these gents.
What a great find.
