Raising the Sheridan barn

The photo was taken on South Manitou Island, Lake Michigan, c. 1872. The barn has disappeared but the historical farmstead and the entire island is now within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. Aaron and Julia Moore Sheridan are the standing couple, upper left. Aaron Sheridan, my great grandfather, was the South Manitou lighthouse keeper from 1866-1878. View full size.

Was just out there

I spent the last few days camping on S. Manitou. While hiking around, I saw the grave markers of Aaron and Julia in the old cemetery and was startled to see that father, mother, and child all had the same date of death in 1878. How very sad. I was looking for more information and found this photo of the barn - thank you very much for putting it up.
