After several fruitless years of looking for members of the Miller/Mueller/Müller side of the family, I've heard from a researcher looking for Anna (Kopic) Mueller, my great-grandmother. That's her on the right with one of her three sons, Arthur. Probably New York City, circa 1920. (And boy! can I see my father's face in hers. He had the same hands, too.) View full size.
My great-grandmother Wow, this is really cool...a photo of my great-grandmother Anna. Thanks for posting this! I'm sure you'll be interested in the below link. It'll take you to Anna Kopic Mueller's listing on findagrave.com. By the way, her last name was changed to Muller.

My mother’s Uncle Benny and his wife pose for an official wedding portrait at an unknown date during the late 1800s or early 1900s at Hurwitz’s Photographic Art Studio, 273 E Houston St., New York City. At some point Benny sent for his younger brother Issar to join him in America. Together they formed the Weinstein Brothers Cloak and Suits. Unknown how they became the Weinstein Brothers because they were born with the last name of Derrish. View full size.

Every Summer there is an Italian food festival on 9th Avenue in New York City. The crowd of people visiting the festival is enormous. These two people reside on 9th Avenue and were watching the events. The lady tried to inform the man of a particular event, but the man did not hear; possibly because he had a hearing aid in his right ear. Taken in 1952. View full size.

Posted by aenthal - 08/09/2013 - 6:39pm -

This photo, taken by my mother in 1951, shows my father with his first car: a 1950 Studebaker Champion 4 door sedan. He dated my mother in that car. They were married in October 1951, and he traded that car in on a 1952 Commander in the spring of '52. So they only had this car as newlyweds.
The reason my father bought a Studebaker was that he had come from New York City where nobody in his family had ever owned a car, or even had a license to drive one. The Studebaker dealer offered to give him driving lessons, and take him to the DMV to get a license, included in the price of that car. So a sale was made. By all reports the car was a dog - under-powered and under-braked, which is why he did not keep it long. It had a manual transmission, and if anyone ever waxed it, there is no evidence of that in this shot.
Buildings in the background are the New Brunswick New Jersey garden apartments where they lived until 1953.

According to notes in the album this is the automobile race winner at Brighton Beach, NY, August 8, 1907.
From Robert Dick: I would say he looks like Fiat driver Emanuele Cedrino.
From Don Capps: The winner of the Brighton Beach 24 Hour event was Montague Roberts with William McLivrid using a Thomas 60 HP.
There were several crashes and as a result there was one death and a number of injuries to the crews and spectators.
This was an eBay find with pages from an album that also contains photos of the New York Skyline, Atlantic City beach, and (I think) the Iron Pier.

1979, Central Park, New York City
Alicia, one of my neighbors from when I lived on E. 83rd Street in Manhattan, appears to give me the stink-eye. She had her head turned to her right, in profile to the camera, and that's what I intended to photograph, but at the moment my shutter clicked, she turned back towards me and squinted in the afternoon sun.
It was a pleasant Spring weekend afternoon, and Alicia and I decided to walk the few blocks west to Central Park for some photography. Here we stopped at "Cleopatra's Needle," the 3450-year-old Egyptian obelisk near the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In those pre-Giuliani/Bloomberg days, graffitist felt free to deface anything, even an ancient relic like this one, and once attacked, it would remain that way - or worse - from then on. Most of the landmarks in the Park suffered a similar fate and were in various states of decrepitude.
Thanks to the non-profit Central Park Conservancy and better law enforcement, the Park looks amazing, and we haven't seen this kind of vandalism in more than two decades. View full size.

My Dad (at left) and his half-uncle Clayton MacNeal in a field somewhere in northern New Jersey in about 1912. They are probably on the estate of one of the Childs brothers of the then-popular restaurant firm. My Dad was an only child who lost his father when he was less than 2 years old, so Clayton became all but a big brother to him while they were growing up. Clayton worked for the Childs chain for many years beginning in about 1916 in New York City, married in 1927 and again in about 1938, and had a life-long career in the food service and hospitality business in locations all over the country. He died in Los Angeles in 1959.
