Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

On a fishing trip with my dad, c.1950 somewhere in Minnesota. My dad bought that 2.5 hp Johnson motor from a co-worker at the printing plant where he worked; he sold it back to the same co-worker over 20 years later for exactly what he paid for it, and upgraded to a new 7 hp Johnson.
