Franklin Street School

This is a photo of my great grandmother Bertha Mason (right). The caption on the back of the photo indicates it was taken in the 1930s at the Franklin Street School in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she was the principal.
Bertha’s December 1945 obituary indicates she was a “former principal of several public schools in Grand Rapids.” This includes the Franklin St. School, Lafayette Avenue School, and the South Division Avenue School.
The Franklin St. School building is still standing, but has been renamed the “Southwest Community Campus.” It remains part of Grand Rapids Public Schools. Using Google Maps Street View, I found the exact place this photo was taken, which pleased me greatly. View full size.
