We think this is a portrait our great aunt and uncle during WW2/Sino-Japanese War and the Chinese Civil War. We don't know the city or any circumstances. The lady was my grandmother's sister. At this time we think they lived in Beijing. We also are debating the rank insignia: the lack of contrast between the triangle on the collar and the field color of the insignia makes me think it might be Maj. General in the Chinese National Revolutionary Army (Chiang Kai Shek). This would fit other photos of him where he appears to be wearing bars for Colonel. Of course, in black and white it is hard to tell and for all I know it could be private. Many of our photos show the couple mingling with US Army staff, which is in keeping with the fact that our grandfather was assigned to General Marshall's Peace HQ in China.
