Grandfather in Russia, 1921

This image was found among a collection of family photos, with the caption "Grandfather Russia 1921." Possibly taken in Grodno (now called Hrudna), in Belarus. On the back of the photo is written a free-verse poem:

I want so much, yet
   I live so little
Things mean nothing
But God, the wants, the needs
   the hungers
Oft even the shortest life
Are greater than the longest
   death.
Yet we desire, oh Lord, heaven
And receiving earth, are satisfied.

Let me forget fool's advice
And bask in childlike happiness
Yet I am human, and must want
Everything, receiving but percent

I've no idea who wrote the poem.
