They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Replacing the carbon electrodes in the arc lights atop the poles awash in the sea couldn't have been much fun.

There seems to be an American flag soaring [near the kite] way above the scene. There are flags near the shoreline that might be on the same line. Would they use a balloon to hoist that or would a kite be able to do it?
The banner on the left says "Above All Bostock's." Most likely animal (lion) tamer Frank C. Bostock.
