Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

"Xmas 1948," featuring the young man we've come to know so well, kicks off our Kodachrome Christmas weekend! We're inclined to say these two are cousins rather than sibs, based on the relatively few appearances the girl makes in the dozens of slides in this batch, taken in Bay County, Michigan. A wonderful series of photographs. I have followed every posting with the hope that someone would recognize this family.
My favorite of the group: My Bodyguard.
Dearest Shorpy, could you please please please show us these dozens more slides pretty please? Little man and his dog and toys and foam green family car are pretty amazing and ,well, happiness-inducing. Merry new year from faraway Belgium!

She reminds me a little of Jackie Kennedy, particularly around the eyes!
