Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

This photo was probably taken by my father during a holiday dinner at my grandmothers. My older brother is at the table sporting a bow tie and my grandfather is decked out in his head-of-household best. I was probably in a playpen somewhere. Note the Kelvinator behind my grandparents. I take it the beautiful woman beside your brother is your mother? And I'm guessing this was taken in the early '50s.
