About the Photos

Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Blended Family: 1914

1914. "Puppy 'mother' in costume holding kitten 'baby'." Like millions of other kitties, this one was probably adopted. Photo by Harry W. Frees. View full size.

I have a bad feeling that an unpleasant and rigid bunch of wires and sticks are responsible for the 'cute' positions achieved by Mr. Frees.

Hoppin' down the bunny trail

I have an entire book of these photos that I inherited from my mom. It's called Down Easter Bunny Lane, I think. It's full of dressed up bunnies, kittens, etc. Amazing what patience this photographer must have had. I love these!

Ah, I see!

You are posting these in order of increasing creepiness, right?
