They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

The horse pants during summer was a good idea.
Washington DC had a malaria problem through the late 1800s.
[Horses don't get or transmit the malaria that affects people. But they do get encephalitis from mosquitoes, which can be fatal. - Dave]
