Note the homemade twig brooms propped against the pine. From an earlier post, a group shot of the ladies. Is the church, in Gordonton, still there?
Sweeping the Yard

My mother tells how "sweeping the yard" was one of her chores as a child growing up in the East Texas Piney Woods. She was not allowed to come to supper till the yard was swept.

Wheeler's Church

According to http://abstusa.com/nc/gordonton , Wheeler's Church is still a landmark in Gordonton. It's one county north of where I sit, and I'm almost sure I've driven past it in the last year or so.
