Ouch!

My eyeballs! But how did the walls manage to escape? Shouldn't they be covered in a tartan wallpaper?

Creeping vine

A Philodendron, very common in those years. My Mom had one she kept for decades, smuggling it under the car seat from Tennessee into California in the early 50's.

Thoroughly Modern

I think it is safe to say that "Mili" was Thoroughly Modern for her time!

Creeping coiling vine caught the lamp

Stealthily waiting for the next victim.
My mother in the 50's and 60's doted over those things.
I'd clip a leaf off with the nail clipper. She was ready to call the arborist and conservation office.

Fashion

It’s probably worth remembering that, while these 50’s decorating schemes may seem garish to us, to their owners they were in timeless good taste. The 50’s brought with them synthetic fabrics, colorants, and pigments that allowed far brighter colors in upholstery, curtains, wall coverings and other furnishings than had ever been possible at a price point the average homeowner could afford. We should also keep in mind that our fabulous granite countertops and stainless appliances will look just as strange to people 50 years from now…. who may be sitting down to dinner at a tangerine plastic table for all we know.

Handyman

The corner table appears to be straight out of a 'weekend project' article of Mechanix Illustrated.

All this room lacks are some plaid curtains and maybe peacock wallpaper.

Fade to Black

A perfect candidate for de-colorizing.

Use of Space

The corner cabinetry seems like a waste of a lot of space unless there's some access I'm not realizing. I'm no interior designer but did all those colors and textures go together? I like it though I'm about as color blind as a person can be.

That end table

I hope someone can identify the maker/designer of that end table - I want it!

True Colors

So that's what those fabrics looked like before they faded. The couch on the left is particularly ... vibrant.

Color Me Different

So this is a telling image. The way that color affects our lifestyle in choosing furniture makes a statement here.

To think that any of these color matches would make it in todays 'normal' household, would be seen as 'eclectic' or 'eccentric' to say the least.

Looks like the color wheel upchucked after food poisoning when choosing the side table.

Some things are obvious

Mili is colorblind.

Colors and patterns and ... blah

I love this explosion of colors and patterns. It looks like the decorator ran out of steam at the walls and windows, though. They're B-O-R-I-N-G.
