About the Photos

Our holdings include hundreds of glass and film negatives/transparencies that we've scanned ourselves; in addition, many other photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs) in the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) They are adjusted, restored and reworked by your webmaster in accordance with his aesthetic sensibilities before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here. All of these images (including "derivative works") are protected by copyright laws of the United States and other jurisdictions and may not be sold, reproduced or otherwise used for commercial purposes without permission.

The "Steam Punk sculpture" is the fire sprinkler system. If that building still exists I'm sure that system is still there doing its job.

Another benefit of wicker

In addition to the airy, clean, cool, leisurely look and feel of wicker, caning and basketry, it is also very lightweight and easy for anyone, even children, to move and rearrange. Being the owner of literally tons of old, solid wood, iron and marble inherited pieces from a half dozen different friends and relatives, I am no longer able to lift or even move it, so everything is in its permanent place, at least until I croak.

Nice Furniture

So let's just leaf it at that. I will now bough out of this conversation.

And in the Kitchen

You will find the wicker stove and fridge.

Forward Thinking Decor

The delicate wicker is nicely balanced by the Steam Punk sculpture partially hidden by the screen.

OMG, my wife would KILL for this stuff. Especially the tea cart and the tall lamp. We have a sun room full of wicker, and it is never enough for her. Not how I would decorate if it were up to me, but then if it were up to me, it would look like the definition of "squalid", so I just roll with it.
