The original super troopers

When the youngest of these men were born in 1920, there were 20 million horses in the US. By the time this photo was taken that number was halved due to motorized transport. Most if not all calvary recruits had never ridden a horse, and training was an unbelievable ordeal on their internal organs and lower extremities.
