Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Jerusalem, British Mandate Palestine, circa 1925. "Staff in garage of American Colony Buick-Dodge agency." View full size. Matson Photo Service.
By any chance, does anyone know any of the people in this photo? I would like to identify Lars Lind, a Swede who grew up in the American Colony and was the manager of the Buick-Dodge Agency. I think the Agency was located near the present Central Bus Station in Jerusalem. Ruth Kark and Helga Dudman put together a book on this late-19th century commune, "The American Colony" (Carta, 1998).
