This whole notebook from 1925 has "I will not talk" written on every page front to back. My grandfather obviously got in trouble at school.

When I was in the fourth grade, I had a habit of talking a lot. My teacher at the time told me, "We're not interested in what you have to say". And I was ordered to write "I will not talk" 1,000 times. From that time on, til after college, I never said a word in class again. Your grandfather probably did the same thing.
