Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

Ack - unpointed foot, weird hands (and face) - ballet technique has become more demanding of professionals, or the photog caught her at a weird moment. Still pretty though. I like the costume. Yes, I'm a (former) dancer.
You know, it would take a tougher lady than me to leap about on uncultivated weeds in bare feet. So pretty, but I cringe when I think of all the boot-piercing thorny things I've encountered on camping trips in settings like this and the earlier one in the woods.
