They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

The instant I saw this picture, I thought of the short story "The Most Dangerous Game," where a big game hunter from New York is shipwrecked on an island and hunted by a crazed Russian aristocrat the early 1920s. That's a disturbing way to start the morning!
