Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Most were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.
I'm not sure of the year this picture was taken. Was it before WWII, during, or after? If that's my grandpa in the picture then I would guess it's before the war but I can't tell. Unfortunately the film was accidentally exposed on one side so I had to crop it. Scanned from a Kodak safety negative.
The T-50 ("Bamboo Bomber") was a five-seater used as a trainer during the war.
Either the engines on this Beechcraft turn backwards or the negative has been flipped.
The car looks like a 1941 Chevrolet coupe. Hope this helps.
