Most of the photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs, 20 to 200 megabytes in size) from the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) Many were digitized by LOC contractors using a Sinar studio back. They are adjusted by your webmaster for contrast and color in Photoshop before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here.

The story this photo suggests to me is that the guitar player and his date were ready to leave for an evening on the town when the photographer talked him into playing a number for the boys. Her dad isn't impressed and is thinking that this smooth punk had better not lay a finger on his daughter. The poor boys enjoy the music even though the player may not be very good. His bored date is just hoping he will hurry up and come on. View full size.
