Harbor at Avalon, Catalina Island. I believe that is the SS Catalina in the center of the picture. I'm hoping I can find more photos of this trip. View full size.
Glass Bottom BoatThis is not the SS Catalina, but one of the paddle-wheel glass bottom boats in operation at the time, probably The Phoenix (which sank recently while being moved up the coast of California).

Before the Ambassador Bridge and the Detroit/Windsor tunnel were built in 1929, ferry boats ran between these two international cities on the Detroit River. Here's my grandmother, her sister, and my aunt Dana on the D&W ferry boat "Promise" in 1924. Note the name on the life preserver. View full size.
Unique outfit! The little girl's outfit is very cute and quite unique, I think! I can't imagine putting satin on a little girl, except for church or something fairly formal wear. I'll bet she was asked to be very careful!

German Torpedo boats and U-Boats. This was possibly taken at the Adriatic seaport of Trieste. Scanned from the original German 9x12cm hand colored glass slide. Unfortunately the bottom 2cm were broken off.

Colorized from this Shorpy original. Colorized with Gimp. This took me about twelve hours. I hope the resolution stays sharp after the upload. You can zoom in even on little dogs running around, all of the differently-colored window sills with people sitting on them, and various people and workers. I tried to make every person different, each of the boats different, and every building a slightly different color of brick or wood. View full size.
