Tule Lake Relocation Center near Newell, California. 1942 or 1943. Japanese American emergency relocation camp with Abalone Mountain in the distance. Photographer unknown. View full size.
Taken from a bluff immediately west of the site across State Highawy 139. Head southeast 7 miles from Tulelake. Abalone Mountain is now called Horse Mountain and is 4 miles east of the photographer. There's a small airport where the camp used to be. You can still see the traces in the ground.
Never forget.
