Fairlane Down Under: 1959

This Australian 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 is a close relative to the "Yank Tank" that appeared here several years ago. The Victoria licence plate GZT-500 matches the model number nicely. My father worked for Ford Australia from 1958 to 1963, and this is likely a company car used for an advertising photo shoot. The food on the blanket does not look very appetising. View full size.

Australian 1959

No, that's an Australian 1959. The 1960 Australian Fords were indeed very slightly facelifted versions of the '59s, as opposed to the American ones, that were entirely redesigned.

Strange picnic

Looks like we have raw onions and spuds for lunch.

More here than meets the eye

Hard to make sense of this picture. The car appears to be a North American '59 Ford Fairlane with right hand drive and an Australian license tag. If it were a made-in-Australia car it would have different side trim and be known as a 1960 model. Who knows?

No ants

But is that a trapdoor spider burrow I see next to the picnic basket?

Good Lord!

Is that "Jaws" as a young man?
