My brothers, circa 1960, from the family 35mm slide collection. I do not know the location, it does not look like any lot we lived on. My guess is it was a neighbor's house in South Bend, Indiana, where we have visited them before. | View full size.
I discovered this circa 1939 photo with our dad (right) and his buddies goofing around with the same sprinkler.
I suspect drinking from the water hose is what helped me to train my taste buds to accept hot coffee.
The heat, the exuberance, the coolness, the splashing, the freedom.
This brings back a vivid memory of the wonderful flavor of garden hose water. Not sure my high school age son knows that taste.
It's the perfect time of day
To throw all your cares away
Put the sprinkler on the lawn
And run through with my gym shorts on
Take a drink right from the hose
And change into some drier clothes
Climb the stairs up to my room
Sleep away the afternoon
It's like a dream you try to remember but it's gone
