About the Photos

Our holdings include hundreds of glass and film negatives/transparencies that we've scanned ourselves; in addition, many other photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs) in the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) They are adjusted, restored and reworked by your webmaster in accordance with his aesthetic sensibilities before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here. All of these images (including "derivative works") are protected by copyright laws of the United States and other jurisdictions and may not be sold, reproduced or otherwise used for commercial purposes without permission.

Lois Hoover 1905-1991

Lois Elizabeth Hoover (1/16/05- 9/17/91) who is feeding this little piggy is my maternal grandmother. I have a photo of her walking this little piggy!!!! Where did you ever find the photo!!!! -- Heather

[Hi Heather. These pictures of your grandmother, part of the National Photo Company glass negative collection, are in the Library of Congress Prints & Photographs archive. - Dave]

Cute Overload!

Thanks, Joe! You're always so helpful. Do you know the location of Miss Hoover as she walked her pet pig in the other photo? People are curious about the house in the background.

And both pictures have been added to Cute Overload:

Lois Hoover Bullis

This Lois Hoover is the one who married William Bullis, the founder of the Bullis School. My first cousin is married to William and Lois's son. He later was the headmaster at the school. The family is familiar with the photo.

I wonder...

if this is the same Lois Hoover who went on to marry William Bullis and founded the Bullis School in Washington.
