About the Photos

Our holdings include hundreds of glass and film negatives/transparencies that we've scanned ourselves; in addition, many other photos on this site were extracted from reference images (high-resolution tiffs) in the Library of Congress research archive. (To query the database click here.) They are adjusted, restored and reworked by your webmaster in accordance with his aesthetic sensibilities before being downsized and turned into the jpegs you see here. All of these images (including "derivative works") are protected by copyright laws of the United States and other jurisdictions and may not be sold, reproduced or otherwise used for commercial purposes without permission.

Fountain of Youth: 1950

Fountain of Youth: 1950

Well, hot summer weather has finally come to this part of Northern California, so it's time to haul out the lawn sprinkler and the kid and let 'er rip. Here in 1950 in our back yard in Idyllic Larkspur™, my sister is handling the camera and I'm handling the comedy. View full size.

re: Portrait of a Square

This is cropped from a 2-1/4 square, or 6x6 cm neg.

Portrait of a square

4.5 cm square? Or was it a 35mm negative that you cropped?

Deja Vu

My word, that brings back memories of not only my own children playing in the garden sprinkler, but of me and my siblings doing the same thing last century.

Sadly, with water restrictions and "water conservation measures" in force in my part of the world, that is a sight we see only rarely nowadays.

Hey tterrace!

Any chance of a "Then and Now" reenactment of this pic?!

Who'd Have Guessed?

That you'd grow up to own a Sony Betamax™

Tterrace ...

You're the best!!! God bless you for sharing your fabulous family history via photos. This pic made my day. Thank-you.

Water Everywhere

It look like you were having a blast getting water everywhere! Cute pic, tterrace.

Water You Doing?!
