Old Pier Building

"In 1886, a new dock and dock house was built at Chautauqua. The dock level had a ticket office, baggage and waiting rooms, shops on the next floor, with dormitories and classrooms on the top level. The tower was 100 feet high, with a large $900 clock and a fine chimes that called local citizens. The building replaced the original outdoor Chautauqua Assembly auditorium. Behind was Lewis Miller's cottage, cofounder of the Chautauqua Assembly."
