Time Traveler? This photo reminds of the historic photos that some people claim to show people using cell phones.
However, I looked it up and classic Chuck Taylor Converse sneakers date all the way back to the early 1920s. I imagine walking around in "basketball shoes" at this time was a rather daring and eye catching fashion choice though.

I found this slide today in my late father's desk drawer. I know he took this picture but where is unknown. He was heavily into slide film from the mid-1950's up thru the 60's. My parents traveled from our home here in Virginia to North Carolina, West Virginia, Ohio and states in between. That is all the information I can offer. View full size.
"When possible, make a U-turn."A bit too soon to be the result of muffed GPS directions, so this auto tableau I think shows a car that has been yanked from the tank, so to speak, rather than any kind of raft or ferry to carry it across the water. One clue is the oil drum lashed on the left, high above the water now. Possibly it was one of a number of empty drums that were on top to add to the buoyancy of the eight drums we see under the contraption, the whole shebang assembled underwater, surrounding the car and raising it from the deep.
Clue B is that the rig is tied up to those posts left and right far from any pier or landing, hardly a standard procedure for river ferries. Then too, the car seems to have a patina of underwater enrichment. Fun to imagine (unless you were the imaginee) maybe this was a mob job, and in the trunk was some poor palooka sent to swim with the fishes.

The New ExhibitThis reminds me of a Twilight Zone episode called "The New Exhibit." A former employee of a defunct wax museum takes home several wax murderers and stores them in his basement. You can guess what happens next.

My great-grandfather, Elbert Mathis, was born and raised in Sylva, North Carolina. After marrying my great-grandmother in Decatur, Tennessee, they moved to California and settled in the Central Valley around Porterville. When Elbert retired, he would spend the summers in Kings Canyon National Park and weave pine needle baskets and lids. Wonderful work by a patient man! Photo taken circa 1958.

The 'Jane Carlyn' is shown here freshly launched and leaving the Diesel Engine Sales Co. docks in St. Augustine, Florida. Roland Styron stands at the bow of his brand new 65' wooden shrimp boat. Capt. Styron had a fish house in Hobucken, N.C. beside the R.O. Mayo fish house and later operated a fleet of shrimp boats that travelled as far south as the Florida Keys. Diesel Engine Sales Co. (DESCO) was a the leading builder of shrimp boats in the US and built 2272 wooden fishing vessels between 1943 and 1982. Photo taken in 1944. View full size.

Aunt Marjorie (Tyler) and her husband, Buren Craven, weren't quite as old as this picture may make them appear. His beard and their clothes were part of Thomasville, North Carolina's Centennial celebration in September, 1952. Mom has noted on the back of the photo, "Marjorie is amused - almost ready to burst into laughter. She's wearing our great grandmother's dolman [and a skirt she] made for the occasion." Charlie Chaplin, behind the automobile at right, and my great-grandfather, Rob Wagner, standing to Chaplin's right and wearing a flat cap, arrive in Wilson, North Carolina, on April 12, 1918, for Chaplin's swing through the southern states during the Liberty Bond Tour to raise funds for the war effort. My great-grandfather served as Chaplin's secretary and ghost writer from about 1916 through 1919. View full size.
